Southeastern Region baseball: Georgia tops South Carolina

WARNER ROBINS - Georgia (Columbus Northern) defeated South Carolina (Carolina Forest) 2-1 in pool play at the Little League Baseball Southeastern Region Tournament on Saturday.

With runners on first and third in the bottom of the first, Georgia's Blake Hicks scored on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, Jacob Pate singled to right field to score Jalen Latta for a 2-0 lead.

South Carolina got a run back on an odd play in the top of the fourth. Jared Lembcke grounded to second, and Georgia forced the runner at second then turned a double play to throw out Lembcke. While celebrating the double play Georgia briefly forgot about Austin Schmitz on third, and he scored to cut the lead to 2-1.

On Sunday, Georgia (1-0) plays Alabama at noon and South Carolina (0-1) plays North Carolina at 7:30 p.m.
