13-year-old driver killed in car accident

A 13-year-old girl died Monday evening when she crashed a car into a tree on a dirt road in Crisp County.

Breanna Corynne Peacock, of Vienna, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Listonia Road shortly after 5 p.m., according to a report filed by Trooper First Class Darryl Benton.

Peacock's passenger, 12-year-old Aliyah Nicole Stokes, was injured after the two had taken Stokes' mother's 2007 Ford 500 without permission, the report stated.

Peacock lost control on the dirt road and traveled about 150 feet through a ditch before hitting the tree, said Sgt. Jon Posey of the Cordele post of the Georgia State Patrol.

"It's senseless," Posey said. "I can't stand to see kids die in a wreck that didn't have to happen. That's one of the worst parts of the job."

Stokes was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia to be treated for her injuries, Posey said.
