Arson arrest made in Village Green case

Macon police have made a third arrest in the ongoing investigation into a fatal shooting, burglary and arson that took place in the Village Green neighborhood Tuesday evening.

Eric Hill, 17, of Britt Drive, was arrested by Macon police on Friday evening. He is charged with arson and burglary and is being held at the Bibb County jail on $8,450 bond.

Although charged with arson, Macon police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet could not say whether investigators suspect that Hill actually started the fire that burned the home at 2696 Village Green Lane in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“At this time, we are still anticipating on making more arrests, as we think there were multiple people involved in this incident,” Gaudet said.

Rodrion Gary, 17, of 2732 Village Green Lane, Tavish Faulks, 18, of Bloomfield Road, and Shamarques Watkins, 16, of Brentwood Avenue, were shot Tuesday night at 2696 Village Green Lane.

Gary died in the shooting. Faulks was shot in the head and wrist. Watkins was shot in the foot, police said. Watkins’ mother, Lavonia, said Saturday that her son is doing better, but declined to comment on the incident or the ongoing investigation.

Hours after the shooting, about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, firefighters were called to the address and found the house ablaze. Macon-Bibb County fire investigator Ben Gleaton on Friday described the fire as “a deliberate human act” and police called it an arson.

Authorities have said the house was burglarized before the fire and it’s “highly probable” that the shooting and the fire are related.

Police arrested Shawn Kitchens on Wednesday and Cameron Sellars on Thursday. Kitchens, 18, is charged with murder while Sellars, also 18, is charged with theft by receiving stolen property and marijuana cultivation.
