UPDATE: Southeastern Region softball: Florida advances, Tennessee falls short

WARNER ROBINS - Tennessee (Daniel Boone) defeated Florida (New Tampa) 5-3 in a Little League Softball Southeastern Region Tournament pool play game Saturday.

Despite the loss, Florida earned the top seed in Pool A and will play in the semifinals on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. against the loser of Saturday night's Warner Robins-North Carolina game.

Tennessee was eliminated from the semifinals later Saturday when West Virginia topped Virginia 3-2. Tennessee will play Alabama on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in a consolation game.

Tennessee scored in the bottom of the first when a Lindsey Laughrun grounder was misplayed. Christina Blevins came around to score for a 1-0 lead.

Florida evened the score in the top of the second when Alyssa Wash hit a dribbler that died 10 feet from home plate. Makaleigh Dooley scored on the play, and Wash was safe at first. One batter later, Carlee Jacobs scored from third on a passed ball for a 2-1 lead.

Florida added another run in the top of the third when Brooke Diaz hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Skyler Boynton for a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom of the third, Laughrun hit an RBI single to shallow left field to score Taylor Ann Campbell and make it 3-2.

Campbell put Tennessee ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth, crushing a two-run triple to right field that rolled all the way to the fence. She scored moments later on a passed ball for a 5-3 lead.
