Southeastern Region softball: North Carolina defeats Alabama

WARNER ROBINS - North Carolina (Wilkes County Little League) defeated Alabama (Phenix City Little League) 9-2 in their pool play game at the Little League Softball Southeastern Region Tournament on Thursday.

In the bottom of the first, Allison Mitchell tripled to center field then scored on a throwing error to give North Carolina a 1-0 lead. North Carolina added a second run on a passed ball for a 2-0 lead. Kaitlyn Perry also drove in a run in the bottom of the third on a fielder's choice for a 3-0 lead for North Carolina.

In the bottom of the fourth, North Carolina took a 4-0 lead on a passed ball. Caitlin Shephered then hit a two-run triple in the bottom of the fourth to put North Carolina up 6-0. Tristan Johnson and Perry added RBI singles for an 8-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Mitchell hit an RBI single to make it 9-0.

Alabama finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth, scoring on a passed ball and a throwing error to make it 9-2.

On Friday, Alabama (0-1) plays Warner Robins (1-0) at 10 a.m. and North Carolina (1-0) plays South Carolina (0-1) at 7 p.m.
