Arson suspected in Village Green fire near scene of fatal shooting

Police and firefighters are investigating a very suspicious fire early Wednesday morning near the scene of a fatal shooting Tuesday night in Village Green.

Arson investigator Sgt. Ben Gleaton said a house was destroyed at 2696 Village Green Lane between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m.

Signs are posted for tipsters to call Georgia's Arson Hotline at 800-282-5804 with information that would lead to a conviction of those responsible.

"No one was at home at the time," said Gleaton of the Macon-Bibb Fire Department. "They were actually downtown at the detective bureau being interviewed about the shooting."

Rodrion Gary, 17, of 2732 Village Green Lane suffered a fatal gunshot wound shortly before 7:30 p.m. and was pronounced dead at The Medical Center of Central Georgia, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

Tavish Faulks, 18, of Bloomfield Road is in critical condition at the Medical Center with life-threatening gunshot wounds to the head and wrist, Jones said Wednesday afternoon.

The other victim, 16-year-old Shamarques Watkins of Brentwood Avenue was treated for a gunshot wound to the foot and released from the hospital, Jones said.

Police have not yet released a motive or further details about the shooting but are asking anyone with information to call Macon Regional CrimeStoppers at (877) 68CRIME.
