An early morning fire has temporarily closed Caliente's Burrito Shop at 6255 Zebulon Road.
Owner Cal Garretson said he will be closed for the "foreseeable future."
Crews responded to the fire in the Plantation Village shopping center at about 4:30 a.m. The blaze ignited in a storage area of the restaurant and was extinguished by the sprinkler system before firefighters arrived, said Cliff Rushin, assistant fire chief of the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department. Caliente's storage area sustained moderate fire damage.
Water damage was reported in the neighboring Pink Physique gym as other businesses on the strip are linked by sprinkler systems, Rushin said.
Pink Physique co-owner Alli Kerr said she was able to keep operating this morning while firefighters were still on the scene.
"I had a client at 5 a.m. so we trained outside," Kerr said. "We're managing around all the hoses and dehumidifiers. We have a mess back there."
The gym's treadmills are out on the sidewalk as crews work to clean up the water damage.
Firefighters spent hours overnight at a large house fire on Valley Forge Road where two dogs perished in the blaze that was fully engulfed when crews arrived, firefighters said.A Macon-Bibb County fire investigator was on the scene this morning trying to determine what sparked that fire.
