The Georgia Department of Labor is hosting a series of employment transition workshops around the state for laid off education workers.
Four sessions will be held at Macon State College, 100 College Station Drive, in the Learning Support Building auditorium at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The other workshops are taking place in Albany, Atlanta and Marietta.
Participants will learn how to file for unemployment insurance benefits and learn about the various support and transition services available through the state and local governments, according to a news release from the labor department.
“It’s critical that these teachers, administrators and school support personnel know what assistance is available to them in these unprecedented layoffs,” said state Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond in a news release. “The Georgia Department of Labor is working closely with Georgia’s leading advocates for education personnel to ensure that the affected workers fully understand how to make the best use of the services to help them and their families through this difficult period.”
The Department of Labor, the Georgia Association of Educators, the Georgia Federation of Teachers and the Professional Association of Georgia Educators collaborated to organize the workshops, according to the news release.
