Child struck crossing WR road dies

WARNER ROBINS — The 2-year-old boy struck by a sport utility vehicle while crossing Watson Boulevard near Collins Avenue with his grandmother at 9:19 p.m. March 23 has died, police said.

The boy died Monday night at Henrietta Egleston Hospital for Children in Atlanta from his injuries from the accident, said Tabitha Pugh, public information officer for Warner Robins police. The boy was taken to Houston Medical Center and then flown to the Atlanta hospital after the accident, according to a Warner Robins police news release

His grandmother, Feng Jing Zhang, 55, of Warner Robins, died the night of the accident at The Medical Center of Central Georgia, where she was taken by ambulance, Pugh said.

Warner Robins police ruled that the incident was accidental, Pugh said.

The driver of a 1999 Ford Explorer was traveling east on Watson Boulevard approaching a green light at Collins Avenue as Zhang and her grandson were attempting to cross Watson Boulevard, the release said.

On-scene evidence and witnesses indicated that Zhang, who was wearing black clothing, attempted to rapidly cross five lanes of Watson Boulevard, according to the release.
