WARNER ROBINS — A man has been charged with murder after a woman died from injuries she sustained in an apparent domestic disturbance, officials said Monday.
Thomas Smith, 45, was charged with one count each of felony murder and aggravated battery, said Warner Robins police spokeswoman Tabitha Pugh. He is being held in the Houston County jail without bail.
Authorities were dispatched to 121 Memorial Terrace, Apt. B, in Warner Robins about a domestic disturbance at 11:17 p.m. Sunday and found Smith stabbed several times in the torso. Rachel Boyd, 61, had been struck several times in the head. Both were taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia. Boyd was pronounced dead at 12:36 a.m., Pugh said.
Preliminary autopsy findings released Monday afternoon showed a cause of death for Boyd as blunt force trauma to the head. Authorities took Smith into custody for questioning after the findings.
It is unknown what the relationship was between Boyd and Smith. Boyd lived in the apartment, officials said, while Smith has a Macon address. Pugh said both Boyd and Smith were intoxicated when police arrived on the scene.
Authorities are asking anyone with information on the case to call detective Karen Stokes at (478) 918-2980 or submit a tip through the department’s Web site, www.wrpolice.org.
