Justin Tubbs made two free throws with 18.2 seconds left and Kennesaw State's Markeith Cummings missed a game-tying 3-point attempt with 10 seconds left and East Tennessee State held on for a 69-64 win Friday over Kennesaw State in the Atlantic Sun Conference semifinals.
Fifth-seeded East Tennessee State (19-14) advanced to Saturday's 6 p.m. championship game against the winner of Friday night's Mercer-Jacksonville game.
Kennesaw State (13-20) reached the semifinal by upsetting top seed Lipscomb 72-69 on Thursday while ETSU beat fourth-seeded Campbell 72-64.ETSU won the two regular-season meetings with Kennesaw State, 63-46 and 66-45, but struggled to get the third win.
Micah Williams, who had 32 points in Thursday's quarterfinal win over Campbell, hit a 3-pointer in the final seconds of the first half to give the Bucs their first lead, 31-29 at halftime.
ETSU kept a small lead early in the second half, but Kennesaw State battled back to take the lead again with 11 minutes left. The game was a two-possession battle from then on.
Kelvin McConnell's putback pulled Kennesaw State within 65-64 with 26.2 seconds left, but he missed the ensuing free throw. Williams added two free throws in the final seconds.
Williams had 20 points for East Tennessee State while Cummings led Kennesaw State with 23.
