Macon police have charged a 24-year-old man in the Saturday shooting death of a west Macon man.
Mauris Javon Durham of Olivia Circle is charged with murder and is being held at the Bibb County jail without bond, according to jail records.
He is accused of killing 41-year-old Cornelius Baldwin in front of his home on Churchill Street on Saturday afternoon, according to Macon police.
While investigating the killing, detectives learned that the suspect’s name was Durham. The detective in the case contacted the U.S. Marshals Office for help in finding Durham, according to a police news release.
U.S. marshals arrested Durham about 12:30 a.m. Monday.
Police have not said how Durham was linked to the crime, whether the two men knew each other or any other details about the slaying.
“The case is still under investigation,” Lt. Eric Walker said.
Baldwin was fatally shot about 3:50 p.m. Saturday after an argument, according to police.
Police say Baldwin had wounds that indicated a bullet traveled through his right arm into his chest. He died during surgery later Saturday.
Baldwin’s death was Macon’s second homicide of the year.
