Two children die in Macon house fire, third child burned

Two children died and another is seriously burned after an early morning house fire today off Napier Avenue.

Mekala Barron, 4, was dead inside the home at 1075 Carlisle Ave., while 12-year-old Zanesia Hollis was pronounced dead in the Emergency Center of The Medical Center of Central Georgia, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

Ricardo Barron, 7, was seriously burned in the blaze and is going to be airlifted to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Jones said.

Macon-Bibb County firefighters received the call shortly before 2 a.m. today.

The children's parents, Jessica and Ricardo Barron Sr. were not hurt in the fire, Jones said.

Autopsies are scheduled to be performed today.

Capt. Tom Musselwhite is on scene this morning investigating the cause of the fire, Jones said.
