Man shot dead in Macon County, suspect in custody

One person is dead and another is in custody after a shooting late Monday afternoon in Macon County.

Octavius Terill Haslam, 24, died of a single gunshot wound and was pronounced dead outside a house at 3522 Camp John Hope Road in Macon County, according to a GBI news release.

Jerome Riley III, 21, has been charged with felony murder and aggravated assault, the release stated.

“It was some sort of a dispute,” said Trebor Randle, assistant special agent in Charge of the Americus office of the GBI. “It was a very senseless killing.”

Randle said there was no relationship between the two men, but they were acquaintances of a third person at the house. Riley was being held in the Macon County jail. Randle said.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the GBI at (229) 931-2439.
