Services set for Bibb deputy killed in Afghanistan

Funeral services for the Bibb County sheriff’s deputy killed in Afghanistan last week have been set for Saturday, the 48th Brigade announced Tuesday.

Staff Sgt. Alex French IV, 31, died of injuries from an improvised-explosive device Sept. 30. Services will be held at noon Saturday at Baldwin County High School, 155 W. Ga. 49 in Milledgeville.

Burial will immediately follow at Scenic Cemetery, 301 S. Wayne St. in Milledgeville.

Slater’s Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

French, a father of three, was a member of the 48th’s Company A, 1st Battalion, 121st Infantry.

A 1996 graduate of Baldwin County High School, French began working at the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office in 2003.

The procession route for French’s casket will begin when it arrives at Baldwin County Airport at 8:30 a.m. The procession will leave the airport at 9 a.m. en route to Slater’s Funeral Home, 244 N. Wayne St., in Milledgeville.

The procession will move from the airport, go along Log Cabin Road, make a left onto U.S. 441 South before turning left onto Hancock Street. The procession will then go left onto Jefferson Street, left onto Montgomery Street before arriving at Slater’s Funeral Home.
