Body of newborn found in Houston Medical Center restroom

WARNER ROBINS — The body of a newborn was found in a restroom at Houston Medical Center early Thursday, police said.

The newborn was discovered in an emergency room restroom, said Warner Robins police Public Information Officer Tabitha Pugh.

Surveillance video at the hospital showed a woman coming into the hospital between 2:30 and 2:45 a.m., Pugh said. The woman, who is currently being treated at the hospital, appears to have delivered and abandoned the child in the restroom, Pugh said.

It was not immediately known if the child was alive at birth, and it was hoped that an autopsy this morning would determine that, Pugh said.

The woman, who does not speak English, came into the emergency room complaining of abdominal pain, Pugh said. Pugh said police investigators are talking with the woman with the help of an interpreter.

The name of the woman and autopsy results are being withheld while the investigation continues and until police have an opportunity to talk again with the woman upon her release from the hospital, Pugh said.
