Police: Byron victim was involved in drugs

Eric Rice, the 26-year-old Warner Robins man found shot to death Friday in a Byron parking lot, had been “involved in some drug activity,” police said.

Byron Police Chief Wesley Cannon said Saturday that the team investigating the death had not come up with any suspects, but “we’re following a bunch of leads.”

Cannon said his information about Rice’s drug activity was based on interviews conducted during the investigation and criminal records.

Rice’s body was found about 7:15 a.m. Friday in the gravel parking lot of the W.E. Green & Son grain facility at 215 New Dunbar Road. He was killed by a bullet to the back of his head. The body was found by a mother who had dropped her children off at Byron Elementary School, located across the street. Heavy rains hampered the search for evidence at the crime scene.
