A Washington County man died Saturday in a fiery wreck near Warthen.
The wreck happened at 7:46 a.m. on Ga. 15 near Mills Lindsey School Road, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Julius C. Jackson of Warthen, 53, was traveling north in a Ford Taurus when he crossed the center line into the path of a southbound tractor-trailer driven by 57-year-old Lamar McNure of Wrightsville. Both vehicles caught fire after the collision. McNure was able to escape his truck with minor injuries, but Jackson was burned with his car and was dead by the time rescue workers arrived. The fire was so severe that the state patrol was not able to identify Jackson until Sunday evening. There were no passengers in either vehicle.—
