Clerk killed in Macon armed robbery

A Macon convenience store clerk was killed late Sunday during a hold up near Riverside Cemetery.

Shortly after 10 p.m. two black males dressed in black robbed the Chevron station at 1257 Riverside Drive and fired a fatal shot that killed Danny Patel, 29, according to a Macon police news release.

Investigators say the robbers, one 6 feet tall and about 180 pounds and the other 5 feet 4 and weighing about 165 pounds, demanded cash from Patel and got the money.As they left, the tall gunman fired a shot and hit Patel who died at a local hospital at 10:46 p.m., the release stated.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones identified the victim as Dipak Patel of Tobee Drive in Lizella. He was shot under the arm pit and an autopsy will be performed on the body today, Jones said.

The men were last seen running up Riverside Drive toward Madison Street.
