Florida man assaulted, robbed outside Perry hotel

PERRY — A Florida man was assaulted and robbed early Tuesday in the parking lot of a Perry hotel.

Police said the assailants followed the 36-year-old Fort Lauderdale, Fla., man to the Comfort Inn at 201 Lect Drive after he walked to the nearby Exxon gas station at 107 Iffy Road to get some beer, Dykes said. The man was attacked in the hotel’s parking lot about 2 a.m.

The robbers knocked him to the ground, beat and punched him, Dykes said.

One of the assailants displayed a knife and told the man to give him his wallet, Dykes said. After taking his wallet, the four fled, Dykes said.

They were outside the gas station earlier when the man had left it.

The victim, aware of the four behind him, thought he had made it to safety when he reached the hotel’s parking lot, but that’s when they attacked him, Dykes said.

The man suffered minor injuries of mostly bumps and bruises, Dykes said.
