Vacant structure damaged in Pierce Avenue fire

Firefighters are still on the scene at 305 Pierce Ave. for a blaze at a vacant structure, located in a residential neighborhood. The building formerly housed a Georgia State Farm bureau. It was for sale.

The building sustained “heavy smoke damage” and “moderate to heavy fire damage,” according to Kenneth Nobles with the Macon-Bibb Fire Department.

No one was hurt. The property is owned by the United Methodist Home for Children and Youth.

The cause of the fire, which was called in at 7:34 p.m., is still unknown.

Cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The fire department arrived at 7:37 p.m. and blocked a section of Pierce Avenue extending from Elizabeth Place to Ingleside Avenue. At least four trucks were at the scene.
