Mercer University’s magazine, The Mercerian, has been awarded first place in the “In-House Publication” category of the 2009 Better Newspaper Contest, according to a news release.
The contest was sponsored by the Georgia Press Association, of which Mercer is an associate member.
The Mercerian is a 56-page magazine published twice a year by the university’s Marketing and Communications Office. It is mailed to 65,000 “alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the university,” according to a news release.
The magazine was redesigned in fall 2008, and it was the inaugural issue that was entered in and won the contest.
“The Mercerian distinguished itself with clean, classic designs,” according to the judges. “Solid writing, combined with compelling photography and graphics compels the reader through the magazine.”
