A Howard Middle school sixth-grader suffered a broken jaw at school, and another student was arrested and has been suspended from school, accused of the injury, Bibb school officials said today.
The confrontation happened about 9:30 a.m. Friday in a Howard Middle School restroom involving two male students, according to Sylvia McGee, deputy superintendent for the Bibb County school system.
The accused attacker, whose name was not released because of his age, was not provoked in any way, school officials said.
“At this time, we are not certain as to why this even happened,” McGee said.

The sixth-grade boy who was attacked was taken to a hospital, she said.
The other student was arrested and taken to a youth detention center in Macon.
The accused attacker had a hearing Monday morning in Bibb County Juvenile Court. He has been suspended pending an investigation, McGee said.
“We are still in the process of investigation,” she said. “This is an unfortunate incident, and we certainly are working to gather all of the information. A part of the mission of the school district is to make certain that students are safe and comfortable. If there is a breach, we take it seriously, review it and take immediate action.”
