Warner Robins man dies hours after being shot

WARNER ROBINS — A shooting last week between two Warner Robins men at a Heritage Woods apartment is now a homicide investigation after one died at the hospital, police said.

Patrick Simpson, 48, died late Friday night at the Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins from a single gunshot wound to the upper torso, said Warner Robins police Sgt. Scott McSwain.

Ricky Charles Ash, 52, of Cochran, was recovering Monday at The Medical Center of Central Georgia from multiple gunshot wounds, McSwain said.

No charges have been filed, McSwain said. Police are interviewing witnesses, he added.

Police described the incident as domestic-related and said the two were shooting at each other.

The 5 a.m. shooting Friday occurred after Ash showed up at Heritage Woods Apt. 10 at 731 N. Davis Drive where Simpson lived and Ash’s estranged wife frequented, McSwain said.

A neighbor called 911. When police arrived Simpson was found inside shot, the detective said.

Others inside the apartment told police the person who allegedly shot Simpson had fled in a sport utility vehicle, McSwain said.

The person later was identified as Ash, McSwain said.

Ash was pulled over near the apartment complex as police were arriving in response to the 911 call, the detective said.

Both men were taken by ambulance to The Houston Medical Center and Ash was later taken to the Medical Center in Macon, McSwain said.
