One dead, one injured in early morning shooting in downtown Macon

One man was shot dead and another injured early this morning in a fight that took place on the corner of Broadway and Walnut Street in downtown Macon.

Darius Tyrece Daniels, a 27-year old man from Kings Park Drive North, was shot in the chest about 3:50 a.m., Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Jones said. Antonio Parker, a 32-year old man who lives on Clinton Road, was shot in the right hip and underwent surgery at the Medical Center of Central Georgia, Jones said. He was listed as stable at the hospital shortly before noon, Jones said.

Police have no suspects, according to Macon Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Melanie Hofmann. She could give very few details, except to say a fight broke out on the street corner and led to the shooting.

"When officers arrived there was a group of people trying to put (one of the victims) in the car," Hofmann said.
