A alleged extramarital affair may have been the cause of a Sunday shooting in the 2700 block of Glen Echo Drive, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to the house early Sunday morning in reference to damage caused to a vehicle by gunfire, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
The homeowners later found gunshots had struck the home outside a bedroom normally occupied by children who were not at home during the incident, according to the release.
No one was injured. Deputies collected shotgun shells at the scene, according to the release.

Investigators spoke with the homeowners and learned that a man living at the house was suspected by his wife of having been involved in an extramarital affair with another woman, according to the release.
Text messages sent to the husband’s phone, tentatively identified as coming from his alleged mistress’s phone, arrived on the phone minutes prior to the shooting. The message was vague, but referenced an apology for something that was about to happen at the home, according to the sheriff’s office.
After the shooting, a subsequent message from the same number threatened the husband that the alleged affair would be exposed if criminal proceedings were initiated, according to the release.
The wife reported receiving a phone call from the alleged mistress later Sunday in which the woman threatened her with physical violence if another man, who investigators believe shares children with the alleged mistress, was prosecuted in connection with the incident, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators are attempting to talk with the parties potentially involved in the shooting. Charges of aggravated assault and criminal damage to property could result from the investigation.
