UPDATE: Shot fired in Bibb motel carjacking

Bibb County deputies are investigating a carjacking and shooting at a motel in the 4700 block of Chambers Road early this morning.

A black two-door Honda Accord with California license plates was stolen at gunpoint early today by a gunman who fired a shot at the Country Hearth Inn, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

Lt. George Meadows said a couple was inside the car in the parking lot when the gunman ordered them out of the car and fired a shot that did not injure anyone at about 3:15 a.m..

Kevin Mackey of Macon said the woman with him in the car fled with two of her girlfriends in a red Cadillac Fleetwood before deputies arrived on scene, according to the news release.

Mackey and his friend Steven Mays were borrowing the car from a friend who was overseas in the military and had met the three women in a bar before renting a room at the inn, the release stated.

Investigators want to talk to the three women and are asking the public's help in identifying the trio who may have been seen at Big Boy's Lounge on Williamson Road earlier in the night.
