Two men rescued from raging Tobesofkee Creek

Monroe County authorities pulled two men from the raging Tobesofkee Creek late Thursday.

Josh Thompson of Culloden and Buddy Long of Macon put their canoe in at Montpelier Springs Road to float to Shi Road but heavy rains created turbulent conditions along the creek and their canoe quickly overturned, according to a news release from Monroe County Emergency Services public information officer Shane Cook.

Because of the swift current the 18-year-olds were not able to get to the bank but had to grab onto a tree in the middle of the flowing water and holler for help.

A neighbor heard their frantic cries for help and called 911, the release stated.

Monroe County firefighters Lt. David Fullmore and Wesley Jackson, who are members of the Georgia Search and Rescue Task Force 4 used High Falls rescue boat 2 to bring the men to safety at about 7:30 p.m.
