Claude Smith Field drains well, but not well enough for tonight's Georgia Tech-Mercer baseball game to survive.
Mercer announced the game's postponement a little after lunch. Tuesday's rain as well as overnight precipitation was too much to recover from for the 6 p.m. first pitch.
No makeup date has been set.
It's the fifth rainout of the season for Tech, including a snowed-out game and last week's matchup with top-ranked Georgia.
Mercer has lost six games to weather as well. The Bears twice tried to get in an early-season home doubleheader with Bryant and couldn't.
The Yellow Jackets, ranked in the top 10 in four polls, return to ACC play on Friday when North Carolina visits for the start of a three-game series.
Mercer entertains Florida Gulf Coast at 6 p.m. Friday in the first of three games. FGC is in a three-way tie for second in the A-Sun and is 14-13 overall. Mercer, which beat Georgia State 5-4 on Tuesday, is 9-12 overall and 4-5 in conference play, good for seventh place and only 1 1/2 games out of fifth.
