A woman who was driving the wrong way down Gray Highway was seriously injured Monday morning after striking a ditch and flipping her car.
At about 7:30 a.m. Nellie Brown was headed north away from Macon in the southbound lanes when her white Toyota Camry clipped a Suzuki Aerio sedan near the entrance to the Murphy USA gas station across from Wal-mart, said Austin Riley, accident investigator for the Macon Police Department.
Brown, 59, of Macon, swerved into the northbound lanes but crossed the median back into the southbound lanes, drove off the road and hit a ditch near the Conoco gas station where the car flipped several times before coming to rest near Wood Valley Road, Riley said.
She suffered a head wound and was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia where she was in stable condition, Riley said.
Because the distance was so great between the initial point of impact and where the Camry stopped authorities initially reported two accidents.
The road was closed for nearly an hour but was open by 8:40 a.m.
