Days of rain has brought the Ocmulgee River to near flood stage prompting a flood warning at Macon but the riverwalk does not appear to be threatened this time.
The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for minor flooding today as the river was expected to crest at about 18.8 feet this afternoon which is less than a foot over flood stage of 18 feet.
The Ocmulgee Heritage Trail floods at 19 feet, according to the warning.
The warning expected the river to rise above flood stage after midnight but the latest observation from the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service shows the river seems to have leveled off at 17.43 feet before dropping to 17.38 feet shortly before 5 a.m.
The warning covers the river along Monroe, Bibb, Houston, Jones and Twiggs counties.
