Fire truck involved in accident in Monroe County

Monroe County sheriff’s deputies and Monroe County emergency services workers responded to an accident Tuesday evening involving an overturned fire truck on Ga. 41 in Monroe County, authorities said.

About 6 p.m., Chad Whitmire, a Monroe County firefighter, was headed north on Ga. 41 near Pea Ridge Road when he turned into a driveway to avoid hitting a Toyota 4-Runner, according to a release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Whitmire was not able to stop quickly and veered off the roadway, overturning in a road embankment.

Zachary Jones, 18, of Forsyth, the driver of the SUV, was not injured and the fire truck did not strike his vehicle, according to the release.

Whitmire was transported to The Medical Center of Central Georgia to be checked for injuries, authorities said.

The fire truck, a single cab pumper based at Station 11 on Maynard’s Mill Road, continued to be used on calls following the incident.

Charges are not pending, according to the release.
