Family establishes fund to erect headstone for slain mother of Macon officer

A fund has been created to collect donations from people wishing to help pay for a grave marker for Jana Lee Cole. She was fatally stabbed in a 1982 attack that injured her young sons, 4-year-old Eric, and 2-year-old twins Jonathan and Michael.

Her grave at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery is unmarked.

Eric Dorough, now a Macon police officer, has created a fund at Atlantic Southern Bank for the donations. Many Telegraph readers were touched by Dorough’s story in Sunday’s paper and his quest to save enough money to have a headstone erected for his mother.

Donations can be mailed to the Jana Lee Cole Memorial Fund in care of Atlantic Southern Bank, P.O. Box 27150, Macon, Ga. 31221. Donations also can be made in person at any Atlantic Southern Bank branch in Macon.
