UPDATE: Police seize stolen gun at home of man shot in face

Macon police seized a stolen gun from the Jeffersonville Road house where a 26-year-old man was shot in the face Sunday night, according to a police report released today.

Officers responded to 2073 Jeffersonville Road at about 9 p.m, and found that Dexter Dewayne Bell, a resident of the house, had been shot, according to the report.

Bell’s mother told officers that her son was chasing another man around the house and at some point the man pulled out a pistol and fired three times, according to the report.

The man left on foot.

While investigating the crime scene, officers found a .22 caliber long rifle in plain view inside a bedroom closet. A check of the serial number on the gun revealed it was reported stolen through the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, according to the report.

Officers also found a .45 caliber shell casing at the scene, according to the report.

No arrests have been made in connection with the case, said Sgt. Melanie Hofmann, public information officer for the Macon Police Department.
