Progressive Christian Academy may be forced to close at end of month

Progressive Christian Academy, a private school in Macon opened since 1985, is facing foreclosure.

Principal Betty Tolbert said Friday the private school needs at least $40,000 by the end of the month to pay the mortgage company or facesshutting down.

The school is located on Madison Street in Macon¹s historic Pleasant Hill neighborhood.

"It's a scary time for us," she said. "We're raising funds now to continue."

The private school operates on student tuition and endowments, but enrollment has dropped by half this year providing less funding. The schoolnow has about 220 students.

Some parents have been laid off or their hours cut and are unable to pay tuition, she said.
