Middle Georgia experiencing the coldest weather of the season today, and colder weather is still headed our way tonight.
The morning low dropped to 21 degrees today at the Middle Georgia Regional Airport in Macon which was way shy of the 14 degree record set in 1972. The state summary shows an unofficial low of 20 at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins.
Despite the bitterly cold temperatures, no major weather-related problems were reported today in Middle Georgia.
In west Georgia, the cold weather caused Carroll and Haralson counties in Georgia to call off classes.
Temperatures plunged to 4 degrees in Blairsville in the north Georgia mountains and 11 in the Atlanta area with wind chills at zero on Friday.
Schools officials in Carroll County said teachers and students should not report, but 12-month employees should report at 8 a.m. In Haralson County, all staffers were told to report for work at the usual time.
The National Weather Service in Peachtree City issued a wind chill advisory for portions of north Georgia until noon and forecast overnight temperature into Saturday morning would range from the single digits north to upper teens south.
