Routine traffic stop yields drug arrests on Interstate 75

PERRY — Two men were charged with drug trafficking after a routine traffic stop Monday on Interstate 75 near Perry, police said.

Jabari Khaiafani Williams, 19, of Stone Mountain, and Kelvin Merrick Mullings, 33, of Norcross, were charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, Houston County sheriff’s Sgt. Clay Chambers said Tuesday.

Chambers said he pulled over the southbound 2006 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Williams, for an improper tag violation near mile marker 133.

The officer said he smelled the odor of marijuana inside the car and a search produced 400 tablets of Ecstasy and four ounces of marijuana. The drugs were hidden under the carpet in the trunk, he said.

The street value of the Ecstasy was estimated at $10,000 and the marijuana at $560, the officer said.
