Light snow possible as cooler weather returns next week

That dreaded but often celebrated four-letter-word "snow" is mentioned in next week's forecast in Middle Georgia.

The National Weather Service forecasts a return to freezing overnight temperatures and highs in the 50s next week which brings a slight threat of snow early Thursday morning.

A slight chance of precipitation develops Wednesday night as the mercury is expected to plunge to 26 by daybreak bringing a 20-percent chance of showers and snow showers for Thursday morning.

Today's forecast calls for a red flag warning from noon until 6 p.m. due to dry conditions raising the threat of fires south of a line from Columbus to Athens.
