Retired Northeast High School Principal Ella Carter and Susan Sipe, a former Parent Teacher Association activist, became the newest Bibb County school board members at a swearing in ceremony Thursday.
Carter, 71, won the District 1 seat in July’s primary election and Sipe, 56, won the District 3 seat in November.
Both women start Jan. 1, creating a gender- and diverse-balanced school board.
“I don’t know about excited, but I am delighted,” Carter said after the ceremony in which her friends and family came and presented her with pink roses. “I expect to be an integral part of the board, especially for District 1.”
