After four and a half inches of rain deluged Macon in 24 hours, the Ocmulgee River is expected to rise out of its banks.
The National Weather Serivce has issued a flood warning for tonight and early tomorrow that is expected to affect Bibb, Houston, Jones, Monroe and Twiggs counties.
At 10 a.m., the river was two feet below flood stage of 18 feet at Macon, but runoff from streams and storm drains is expected to bring a crest of 18.7 feet early Friday morning.
Only minor flooding is expected along the river. At 19 feet, part of the Ocmulgee Heritage Greenway will flood along with the lower sections of Gateway Park.
