Man found dead in Macon house fire

Firefighters battling a blaze at 784 Malvern Hill Drive discovered the body of a man inside the home Monday night.

At about 9:30 p.m. firefighters arrived to find the brick house engulfed in flames, said Bibb County coroner Leon Jones.

About two hours earlier a woman called an emergency medical crew to the home to see about 58-year-old Barry Anglin, who was intoxicated and refused treatment, Jones said.

The body was burned beyond recognition and Jones said dental records will be needed to confirm whether it was Anglin who was killed in the fire.

Macon police Capt. Jimmy Barbee is leading the investigation into the death while Macon-Bibb arson investigator Lt. Tom Musselwhite is probing the cause of what Jones called a suspicious fire.
