Church deacon robbed at gunpoint, ladies carjacked in Macon

Macon police have a suspect in custody after an armed robbery and carjacking in a Macon church parking lot Monday night.

Jauvar Rouse, 19, of Villa Esta Circle faces charges of armed robbery and carjacking in the parking lot of the Church of Christ at 751 Key Street, according to a news release from the Macon Police Department.

At about 8 p.m. Monday, Juanita Gorden, 47, and Alice Glover, 75, were in a car in the church parking lot when a gunman approached and ordered them out of the vehicle, the release stated.

When Deacon Samuel Jones came out of the church, the man turned the gun on Jones and demanded his wallet before jumping into the ladies' 2005 Nissan Maxima and speeding off, the release stated.

A member of the Macon police Violent Crime Task Force recognized the car from the lookout and tried to pull it over on Lynmore Circle but the suspect stopped the car, jumped out and ran away.

Officers caught Rouse a short time later, the release stated.
