Traffic on Interstate 16 west bound will be slowed at points tonight, and Interstate 75 northbound will be slowed Wednesday night, as a large piece of equipment destined for the new Kia manufacturing plant near Columbus rumbles up the interstate.
The extra-wide truck, to carry the nearly 620,000 piece of machinery, will have an escort that will have a state patrol escort that will assist in traffic control. Motorists will be able to pass when it's safe, but the vehicle will be traveling at about 45 mph and is expected to cause delays, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The machinery will leave the port of Savannah tonight and be on the interstate from about 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. It will be on I-75 from 9 p.m. Wednesday to 2 a.m. Thursday, according to the DOT.
