Two Maconites inducted into Georgia Radio Hall of Fame

Two of Macon's brightest broadcast stars now have a place of honor in the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame.

Saturday's induction ceremony in Marietta saluted Del Ward Napier Leslie and the late Bill Powell.

Leslie was a female radio pioneer who began her career at WNEX radio in Macon before moving to WGN in Chicago. She moved back to Macon to join WMAZ in 1957, according to the station's Web site.

A year later, Bill Powell came to work for WMAZ radio where he became famous for his banter with Jimmy Vinson.

In 1982, Powell left the radio for a television career as Channel 13's weatherman until his retirement in 1998.
