The Georgia State Patrol Post in Perry said two blocked southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near the Houston-Peach border should be cleared by this evening.
A tractor trailer hauling chicken caught fire at about 3 a.m. today and grease from the burned chicken has created a hazard on the road.
Sgt. James Adams of the Houston 911 center said the southbound lanes are blocked near mile marker 140 just south of Ga. 96 but traffic is moving on the left emergency lane.
Not only do crews have to clear the burned out truck, but the Georgia Department of Transportation has to clear the road of the hazards caused by melted chicken grease and other debris left on the pavement following the fire.
An operator at the Georgia State Patrol post in Perry said they are investigating the cause of the mishap that might have started when the truck was side-swiped.
No one was hurt, the operator said.
