A Houston County jury today convicted a man of robbing HEA Credit Union.
The jury deliberated for about a hour before convicting George Anthony Buffkin, 49, of armed robbery in the Oct. 12 robbery, according to a release from the Houston Judicial Circuit district attorney's office.
Buffkin, of a Smith Chapel Road address, walked into the credit union on Osigian Boulevard, produced a BB gun and demanded money, the release stated.
He left with over $4,000 in cash.

He was arrested later in the day after tellers recognized Buffkin as a former customer and police put a lookout for his vehicle. A Houston County deputy pulled him over about three hours after the robbery and took him into custody. All of the money was recovered except for about $13, the release stated.
Buffkin will be sentenced Wednesday. He faces up to life in prison.
