Labor Day weekend proves deadly on Georgia roads

The Labor Day holiday weekend proved to much more deadly than expected on Georgia's roads.

The Georgia Department of Public Safety reports 18 people died and 577 were hurt in 2,154 accidents across the state between 6 p.m. Friday and midnight Monday.

The department had predicted 16 people would die and 901 would be injured in 1,898 accidents during the holiday weekend.

Last year 12 people were killed and 1,048 were hurt in 2,150 accidents during the three-day weekend.

While there were no fatalities reported in Middle Georgia, the Georgia State Patrol post in Villa Rica is investigating the deaths of 4 people and Union City reports three fatalities in their jurisdiction.
