UPDATE: Macon police say shooting of teen was accidental; one arrested

This afternoon's shooting death in south Macon was apparently an accident, Macon Police said this evening.

A 15-year-old has been arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter, police department spokeswoman Melanie Hofmann said. The charges stem from the death of 13-year-old Edonis Howard, who was shot in the face outside of his home at 1281 Schley St. at about 1 p.m.

Initial reports that three males were involved in the shooting turned out to be erroneous, Hofmann said.

The shots were reported at 1:15 p.m., Macon Police Department spokeswoman Hofmann said. Howard was pronounced dead at The Medical Center of Central Georgia at 1:54 p.m., according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

"This was not gang related," Hofmann said. "No more arrests are expected to be made.

"It's an accidental shooting," she said.
