Olympic shooter Vincent Hancock, an Eatonton resident, advanced through the Day 1 qualifying rounds of Olympic skeet shooting Friday morning in Beijing, leading the entire field.
Hancock, 19, a member of the Army’s Marksmanship Unit based out of Fort Benning, finished his three qualifying rounds with a first-place total score of 73. Four others were tied in second-place with scores of 72, while the next highest-ranking American finished tied with a slew of others at 70.
Breezing through the competition, Hancock takes his lead into Saturday morning’s final two qualifying rounds, with hopes of reaching the final round shoot-off, which will be held Saturday afternoon.
