Former Georgia infielder Gordon Beckham has signed with the Chicago White Sox and will report to the team’s Class A affiliate in Kannapolis, N.C., on Thursday.
Beckham was selected eighth overall by the White Sox after leading Georgia to within one win of a College World Series championship.
Beckham, a junior last season, hit .411 with 22 doubles, 28 home runs, 77 RBI and 17 steals for the Bulldogs in 2008. In the College World Series, he hit .583 with two home runs and five RBI.
The six-foot, 190-pound short stop was a first-team All-American last season and a finalist for the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award. He finished his college career with a school-record 53 home runs.
